ONE SMALL, REAL OUTCOME

Start a local automation

Understand a tiny workflow locally before connecting business accounts, secrets, or paid services.

What you’re making

A repeatable test workflow with a visible result, a saved copy, and an error case you understand.

  1. 01

    Run an isolated sample flow

Follow the current Node-RED local setup instructions. Begin with an Inject node connected to Debug using sample text. Keep the editor local while learning and review the security guide before exposing it.

Before moving on: Triggering the sample produces the expected message in Debug without external accounts.

  2. 02

    Inspect a request you control

If your workflow uses HTTP, inspect a test endpoint you own with Hoppscotch. Use dummy values. Check the endpoint, method, and response before adding it to an automation.

Before moving on: You can explain what data leaves the workflow and how a failed response is handled.

    Document the flow and recovery

Keep a short runbook in Joplin or your existing notes app: trigger, input, output, failure behavior, and how to stop the flow. Export a flow copy with credentials removed.

Before moving on: You can stop, restart, and recreate the sample without relying on memory.
